The Last Dollar Saloon, known affectionately for decades by Telluride locals as "The Buck" can be found at the southeast corner of Main Street (Colorado Avenue) and Pine Street - the absolute heart of Telluride's historic Victorian downtown.
We occupy a long rectangular hall-style brick building with high tin ceilings that was built on this spot in 1899. Originally called "The National Club" at the turn of the century this location was the home to the finest liquors and cigars, poker and roulette tables, and an ongoing billiards tournment whose progress was closely monitored by the newspapers of the time. Off the back of the building, a restaurant space called the "National Restaurant" served some of the finest meals in all of Colorado at the time. With the assistance of the railroad cars arriving daily into Telluride, the National Restaurant served Squabs, Teal Ducks, Corn Fed Beef, Spring Chickens, Soft Shell Crab, Shad Roe, Black Bass, Spanish Mackeral, Green Lobsters, and a dozen other sorts of fish. The September 20, 1901 edition of the Telluride Daily Journal said "The best place in the city to eat oysters and shell fish is at the National Restaurant. The family Sunday dinner at 5pm is the best in the city."
Today, the restaurant is gone but the Last Dollar Saloon continues its three decade presence as a fixture of the downtown Telluride apres-ski and nightlife scene. In June 2007 the original proprietors of the Buck retired and passed the torch to the owner/operators of the West End Tavern (see www.telluridetavern.com), who closed down the West End to assume the operations at the Last Dollar Saloon. Drawing on over forty years of tavern experience and the successful run at the West End, your proprietors Michael Lee, Moussa Konare, Jay Raible and a capable stable of Telluride's most experienced bartenders now can be found at the Buck, continuing the great traditions that have made this the favorite "cocktail time" destination for Telluride residents and our fine visitors from all over the planet for thirty years.
For well over a decade we have been making Telluride's best margaritas - recognized by a variety of national publications. We have Telluride's widest and coldest selection of domestic & international draft and bottled beer as well as an extensive liquor and wine selection. Happy Hour is in effect daily from 3pm to 6pm with beer and cocktail specials. We have a the best jukebox in town, a new digital internet machine where users can download any song they want, a couple of video games for your gaming pleasure and a classic old stone fireplace to keep you warm in the winter. We also have a great stage where we occasionally feature local musicians and visiting bands.
The Buck is an ideal and affordable venue for your group or private parties in the most convenient location Telluride has to offer. With the summer festival season upon us, we are actively taking reservations for specific dates. Please call or e-mail with an inquiry.
Thank you for your visit to our website. We hope to see you soon.
Cheers,
Mike, Moussa & Jay
